Rabbits are
creatures who love to hop and around and enjoy their surroundings. They are not really like dogs
that you can put on a leash and take on a walk.
You
actually walk with the rabbit, rather than the rabbit walk with you. However, if you want to
take your rabbit on a trip to a big, wide open space, it would probably be best if you get a
hold of your pet and put it in a rabbit harness.
What is a
rabbit harness or rabbit leash?A rabbit harness or rabbit leash is a
contraption used to control or confine the animal.
They are
not as oppressive as they sound, though. It is merely a way for you to train your rabbit to stay
close to you.
Like a dog or other small
pet leash, the rabbit harnesses come in many designs. There are too many designs out there to enumerate. The
rabbit harness may come in the regular kind that is non-stretch. But if you want, there are also harnesses with
that are stretchable.
Picking the right rabbit
harness or rabbit leash is important because doing otherwise can harm the animal. Rabbits are known to have soft
and delicate bones. Their bones can be easily injured by using the wrong kind of harness or by using the leash
incorrectly.

Harness Buying Considerations
Keep in mind the following
things when buying a rabbit harness or leash.
First of all, you should
select a light body harness. It should have buckle bands that go around two parts of the rabbit. The first
should go around the neck and the second band should go around the rabbit’s chest or torso.
A demonstration of putting on a rabbit harness is provided above.
Pick the type of harness
that provides additional support to your rabbit. Typically, a leash with great support is one that has bands
that connect the neck and body bands. The first point of connection is from neck to chest through the rabbit’s
chest. The second point of connection is from neck to chest through the rabbit’s back. The metal hook that
allows the leash to be clipped on and off should be attached to the body strap.
Once you have bought the
leash, be sure that you put it on the rabbit with great care. Again, the animal has delicate bones that can
easily be injured. Let your pet wear the harness for a short time everyday until it gets used to the
contraption. Reassure your rabbit that the harness is safe. You can also give your pet rabbit treats when it
behaves while wearing the harness.
The video above demonstrates the use of one specific type of rabbit harness.
There are many who question
those who opt to use rabbit harnesses and rabbit leashes when taking their pet out of their rabbit hutch, and going out with their
pet bunny. It is often not a question of inhumanity, but a question of safety. In reality, rabbits are prey
animals. They could easily be attacked and eaten by bigger animals.
Out of the confines of
one’s backyard, the rabbit can be open to these attacks. A rabbit harness can be a good thing to allow you to
get your pet some exercise in the outdoors, and we specifically discuss a model from Peter's on the next page.
